A developer known for The Melrose apartments and retail space in Berry Hill and the Nashville West shopping center on Charlotte Pike is in early stages of planning for a new project in Cool Springs.

Franklin-based Parkes Development Group and its partners paid $7.3 million for the roughly four-acre targeted site at the northeast corner of West McEwen Drive and Mallory Lane near the Toyota of Cool Springs car dealership.

Company Principal Gary W. Parkes said the developer is still considering options for the location. “The development plans have not been finalized yet,” he added.

An entity linked to the Alexander car dealership family sold the 4.02-acre site, which is near the Whole Food-anchored Southside at McEwen shopping center.

In that general area, the development team of Charlotte, N.C.-based Northwood Ravin and locally-based Boyle Investment Co. are pursuing separate plans for a mixed-use project on 45 acres that has been known as Northside at McEwen.

The Parkes Co., developer Parkes Development Group’s construction arm, is no stranger to the Cool Spring area and to Franklin overall. Among area projects, The Parkes Co. built and is handling renovations to the Carmike Thoroughbred 20 movie theater. The company also built the Thoroughbred Village Shopping Center in Cool Springs and the Costco Wholesale store in Brentwood.

In Nashville, Parkes co-developed The Melrose apartments and retail space in Berry Hill where construction is underway on the next phase. The company also was co-developer of the Nashville West shopping center.
