WCS Earns High Marks on State Report Card

The Tennessee Department of Education continues to recognize Williamson County Schools as a top performing district in the State. The annual Report Card was released today and the district’s success was validated.

The Report Card confirmed that WCS is an Exemplary District with 19 Reward Schools. In addition, the district earned top marks (all “5s”) in growth for fifth through eighth grades and high school.

“I am so proud of our students, teachers and administrators,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “Our teachers continue to be laser-focused, and our students are eager to learn. The proof of their success is reflected on the Report Card.”

The Report Card shows the district’s ACT composite score was 25.2 for the class of 2017 WCS graduates, the highest in district history, with approximately 80 percent of last year’s seniors achieving a 21 or higher to be HOPE Scholarship eligible.

In addition, Williamson County Schools spends less per pupil than most districts in the State. The district’s per pupil expenditure is $9408. That’s is an increase of $450 from 2016, which matches the State’s increase but still keeps the district in the bottom half of all districts.

“For Williamson County residents, the best return on their investment is Williamson County public schools,” said Looney. “Our citizens should be proud of their school district. Excellent public schools are economic drivers for a community, and when students can go to college on a scholarship, that leaves more money for their parents to reinvest locally.”
