DESCRIPTION:Theme: “Friendship: The Heartbeat of Global Peace.”\nSister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County and Sister Cities International are proud to present the 2025 Young Artists and Authors Showcase\, inviting youth from Williamson County\, TN to express their creativity through the theme “Friendship: The Heartbeat of Global Peace.” This year’s theme highlights the power of friendship to foster understanding\, collaboration\, and peace across borders.\nOpen to artists\, writers\, photographers\, and musicians aged 12-18\, the Showcase provides a unique platform to explore how global friendships can drive positive change and bridge cultural divides. Submissions will be accepted in various mediums\, including visual art\, essays\, poetry\, and music.\nBy participating in this inspiring competition\, young creators will have the opportunity to share their vision of a peaceful world and contribute to the international dialogue about the importance of building friendships across nations.\nStudents must submit their artwork to Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County\, by Saturday\, March 22\, 2025. Additional information regarding specification and entry requirements can be found in the links below.\nAwards\nLocal Competition: First\, second\, and third places will be chosen between all categories. Cash prizes will be awarded by Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County to the students in the appropriate age division. 1st place will receive $250\, 2nd place – $150; and third place – $75.\nInternational Competition: First\, Second\, and Third place winners will be selected in the international competition in Washington D.C. The Grand Prize Winner (1st place) will receive $1\,000; 2nd place will receive $250; and 3rd place will receive $100. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 25\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Feathered Friends 10-11:30 am\nLearn about the characteristics\, habitats\, adaptations and migrations of birds. \nSession II: Animals in Winter 1-2:30 pm\nObserve cold weather adaptations of native plants and animals and compare cold weather strategies like hibernation and migration. \nTuesday\, March 18\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Food Webs 10-11:30 am\nThis program promotes the understanding of predators\, the adaptations for catching prey and why predators help maintain the delicate balance of nature. \nSession II: Reptile & Amphibian Discovery 1-2:30 pm\nLearn the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Meet one of our amphibian ambassadors and hit the trail to look for spring frogs and salamanders! \nTuesday\, April 15\, 2025\nOpen to Ages 10+\nOur 10+ program days are designed for older students and cover more advanced material. These programs may also include longer or more challenging hikes.\nSession I: Outdoor Survival 10-11:30 am\nLearn how to prepare for a trip into the woods. Practice building a survival shelter and go for a hike with a compass as your guide.  \nSession II: Butterflies 1-2:30 pm\nAn introduction to the life cycles of butterflies.
