DESCRIPTION:March Workshop: Beginning Birding\nSaturday\, March 8\, 8 – 10:30 am\n$20 / person \nAges 14+ (minors must be accompanied by a registered adult)\nGet ready for spring migration with this introduction to bird watching and bird identification. Learn the basics of bird identification by sight and sound using a field guide or digital app. This program will also discuss how to choose and use binoculars and how to share your findings with digital citizen science apps like eBird and iNaturalist. \nBring binoculars! There will also be a limited number of binoculars to borrow. Participants are welcome to bring field guides or load a digital field guide like Sibley or Audubon on their smartphone. \nInstructor: Laura Smith\, OHNS Staff Naturalist

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 25\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Feathered Friends 10-11:30 am\nLearn about the characteristics\, habitats\, adaptations and migrations of birds. \nSession II: Animals in Winter 1-2:30 pm\nObserve cold weather adaptations of native plants and animals and compare cold weather strategies like hibernation and migration. \nTuesday\, March 18\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Food Webs 10-11:30 am\nThis program promotes the understanding of predators\, the adaptations for catching prey and why predators help maintain the delicate balance of nature. \nSession II: Reptile & Amphibian Discovery 1-2:30 pm\nLearn the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Meet one of our amphibian ambassadors and hit the trail to look for spring frogs and salamanders! \nTuesday\, April 15\, 2025\nOpen to Ages 10+\nOur 10+ program days are designed for older students and cover more advanced material. These programs may also include longer or more challenging hikes.\nSession I: Outdoor Survival 10-11:30 am\nLearn how to prepare for a trip into the woods. Practice building a survival shelter and go for a hike with a compass as your guide.  \nSession II: Butterflies 1-2:30 pm\nAn introduction to the life cycles of butterflies. Learn to identify common butterflies of Middle Tennessee and take an exploratory hike to find caterpillars and their parents.
