Minors must be accompanied by an adult. \nGate opens 30 minutes before program start. Program begins promptly at noted time. No late entries. No exceptions. \nPack dinner and arrive early to picnic on the grounds. We are a pack-in/pack-out facility – please plan to take your trash with you. \nCome along on a nighttime adventure! We’ll explore the woods at night by lantern light\, listen for the sounds of nocturnal animals including owls\, coyotes\, crickets and frogs\, and share stories about the history of Owl’s Hill. \nThis program is for adventurers who are looking for a longer hike than our typical evening programs. The route is 1.5 miles of moderately challenging natural surface trail. Participants can expect moderate uphill and downhill hiking as well as areas of uneven terrain. Once the hike departs\, participants are expected to stay with the group for the duration of the hike. \nClosed-toe shoes suitable for hiking are strongly recommended. \nFor the safety and comfort of all participants\, participants are not permitted to carry additional sources of light (headlamps\, flashlights\, etc.). Lanterns will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 27\, 2024\n10 am – 1 pm\nCost: $10 Adult (ages 13+)\, $8 Child (ages 12-5) Children 4 & under free \nCome to Owl’s Hill for a day of family fun and exploration! Geocaches are hidden in containers that can be found using a GPS or smartphone. Head out on our kid-friendly course set up with caches ready to be found. (We’ll also have a couple more challenging caches for anyone looking for extra adventure.) Hike around in the woods and see what you can find. No experience necessary! \nBring your own GPS device or use your smartphone with Google Maps installed to find the caches. Participants are welcome to bring tradeables (small toys or trinkets) to leave or exchange in caches. \nCheck in between 10 am and 1 pm. Trails are open for geocaching until 3 pm. The gate closes promptly at 3 pm.\nPlanning to bring a picnic? You are welcome to use the picnic tables in our orchard. Please plan to carry out your trash.

SUMMARY:Nature Poetry Workshop at Owl's Hill
DESCRIPTION:August 12\, September 16\, and October 14\n9 am – Noon\n$45 per workshop or $120 for the 3-class series (each workshop can be taken independently) \nJoin us once a month to read and write poems that respond and engage with nature. During our time together\, we will look closely at several examples of nature poetry and discuss the nuts and bolts of how such poems are crafted. We will also think about why the poet chose to consider certain specific elements of the natural world to be included in their work. Once we read a few poems for inspiration and guidance\, we will then let the beautiful surroundings of Owl’s Hill Nature Preserve be our further motivation and personal muse by trying our own hand at writing poems. I will offer prompts to help encourage our creative process. \nThis workshop will be one that might generate full or maybe just the beginnings of poems. The organization of the class will be as such: discuss poems\, split up to write our own poems\, come back together to share what we came up with. By encouraging each other’s drafts\, I hope we will all walk away with the potential for a strong\, nature-inspired poem. \nWhat to bring: \nPaper: in the form of a journal or a notebook.\nWriting implement: a pen\, pencil\, (maybe bring more than one just in case).\nOutdoor clothing and shoes: I will encourage you to explore the grounds around Owl’s Hill\, so you should wear the proper clothing and shoes to do so.\nSunscreen and/or insect repellent.\nA lunch or snacks in case you get hungry.\nWater. \nPlease plan to arrive early enough to park and to get settled in.

Program begins promptly at noted time. No late entires. No exceptions. \nPack dinner and arrive early to picnic on the grounds. We are a pack-in/pack-out facility – please plan to take your trash with you. \nCome along on a nightime adventure! We’ll explore the woods at night by lantern light\, listen for the sounds of nocturnal animals and share stories about the history of Owl’s Hill. \nThis program is for adventurers who are looking for a longer hike than our typical evening programs. The route is 1.5 miles of moderately challenging natural surface trail. Participants can expect moderate uphill and downhill hiking as well as areas of uneven terrain. Once the hike departs\, participants are expected to stay with the group for the duration of the hike. \nClosed-toe shoes suitable for hiking are strongly recommended. \nFor the safety and comfort of all participants\, participants are not permitted to carry additional sources of light (headlamps\, flashlights\, etc). Lanterns will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:September Naturalist Workshop: Into the Trees\nSaturday\, September 23\, 9 – 11:30 am \n$20 / person\nAges 14+ \nTrees are a crucial part of ecosystems all over the planet. The Standing People not only serve as food\, housing\, and oxygen producers for innumerable other species\, they also have a hand in temperature and water control\, soil creation\, and many more functions you may never have thought about. \nYou’ll learn how to identify local tree species\, and find out about their growth and reproduction\, their many roles — and hear about some secrets we’re learning about their intelligence and communication! \nThis workshop is part classroom and part field work\, so bring your notebook AND your hiking boots.
