DESCRIPTION:Fall Lantern Hikes \nFriday\, September 19\, 2025\nHike Time: 7 – 9 pm \nFriday\, October 31\, 2025\nHike Time 6 – 8 pm \nCost: $18 / person \nAges 12+. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. \nGate opens 30 minutes before program start. Program begins promptly at noted time. No late entries. No exceptions. \nPack dinner and arrive early to picnic on the grounds. We are a pack-in/pack-out facility – please plan to take your trash with you. \nCome along on a nighttime adventure! We’ll explore the woods at night by lantern light\, listen for the sounds of nocturnal animals including owls\, coyotes\, crickets and frogs\, and share stories about the history of Owl’s Hill. \nThis program is for adventurers who are looking for a longer hike than our typical evening programs. The route is 1.5 miles of moderately challenging natural surface trail. Participants can expect moderate uphill and downhill hiking as well as areas of uneven terrain. Once the hike departs\, participants are expected to stay with the group for the duration of the hike. \nClosed-toe shoes suitable for hiking are strongly recommended. \nFor the safety and comfort of all participants\, participants are not permitted to carry additional sources of light (headlamps\, flashlights\, etc.). Lanterns will be provided.

Learn how to live in harmony with (and even attract) some of our spookiest\, coolest wildlife. \nNature Conservancy Cave Program Director\, Cory Holliday will be onsite for a special presentation on bats. Registration includes a bat box to build and take home. (We’ll provide the tools and guide participants through the project. No experience necessary!)

Geocaches are hidden in containers that can be found using a GPS or smartphone. Head out on our kid-friendly course set up with caches ready to be found. (We’ll also have a couple more challenging caches for anyone looking for extra adventure.) Hike around in the woods and see what you can find. No experience necessary! \nBring your own GPS device or use your smartphone with Google Maps installed to find the caches. Participants are welcome to bring tradeables (small toys or trinkets) to leave or exchange in caches. \nCheck in between 9:30 am am and 12:30 pm. Trails are open for geocaching until 3 pm. SUMMARY:Lantern Hike at Owl's Hill
DESCRIPTION:Spring Lantern Hike\nFriday\, April 4\, 2025\n7:30 – 9:30 pm \nCost: $18 / person\nAges 12+. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. \nGate opens 30 minutes before program start. Program begins promptly at noted time. No late entries. No exceptions.\nPack dinner and arrive early to picnic on the grounds. We are a pack-in/pack-out facility – please plan to take your trash with you.\nCome along on a nighttime adventure! We’ll explore the woods at night by lantern light\, listen for the sounds of nocturnal animals including owls\, coyotes\, crickets and frogs\, and share stories about the history of Owl’s Hill. \nThis program is for adventurers who are looking for a longer hike than our typical evening programs. The route is 1.5 miles of moderately challenging natural surface trail. Participants can expect moderate uphill and downhill hiking as well as areas of uneven terrain. Once the hike departs\, participants are expected to stay with the group for the duration of the hike. \nClosed-toe shoes suitable for hiking are strongly recommended. \nFor the safety and comfort of all participants\, participants are not permitted to carry additional sources of light (headlamps\, flashlights\, etc.). Lanterns will be provided.

Each week has a different focus emphasizing working together through discovery\, crafts\, and outdoor exploration. \nNo strollers or unregistered siblings\, please. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Fees are per adult/child pair for one 4- or 6-week series (spring\, summer\, or fall).

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 25\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Feathered Friends 10-11:30 am\nLearn about the characteristics\, habitats\, adaptations and migrations of birds. \nSession II: Animals in Winter 1-2:30 pm\nObserve cold weather adaptations of native plants and animals and compare cold weather strategies like hibernation and migration. \nTuesday\, March 18\, 2025\nSuitable for Ages 5+\nSession I: Food Webs 10-11:30 am\nThis program promotes the understanding of predators\, the adaptations for catching prey and why predators help maintain the delicate balance of nature. \nSession II: Reptile & Amphibian Discovery 1-2:30 pm\nLearn the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Meet one of our amphibian ambassadors and hit the trail to look for spring frogs and salamanders! \nTuesday\, April 15\, 2025\nOpen to Ages 10+\nOur 10+ program days are designed for older students and cover more advanced material. These programs may also include longer or more challenging hikes.\nSession I: Outdoor Survival 10-11:30 am\nLearn how to prepare for a trip into the woods. Practice building a survival shelter and go for a hike with a compass as your guide.  \nSession II: Butterflies 1-2:30 pm\nAn introduction to the life cycles of butterflies. Learn to identify common butterflies of Middle Tennessee and take an exploratory hike to find caterpillars and their parents.
