Tickets for WCPR Children’s Theatre summer productions now on sale

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPR) and the Williamson County Performing Arts Center (WCPAC) at Academy Park are excited to present 2023 summer productions by WCPR Children’s Theatre’s Rising Stars and Straight to the Stars Youth Theatre programs.

Rising Stars is WCPR’s theatre group for younger performers in first through eighth grade. The Rising Stars summer production for 2023 is The Sound of Music Youth Edition. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows Maria, an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, the von Trapp family must make a moral decision. This production will include two sing-along performances, at which audience members will be encouraged to sing along with the cast during musical numbers. Performances will take place Friday, July 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Straight to the Stars Youth Theatre is WCPR’s theatre company producing straight (non-musical) plays starring high school students. The summer production for 2023 will be Ghostlight by Stephen Gregg. When indifferent student Garbiela Nettles is inexplicably admitted to the prestigious Doves Forge Academy, all she wants to do is leave. But before she can get herself expelled, Garbiela starts to hear sounds that no one else hears: ghost echoes from the remnants of a long-ago tragedy in the school’s theatre. As she investigates the sounds (by joining the disastrous play in progress), Garbiela uncovers a story that’s both surprising and surprisingly moving. Theatrically staged using the production’s audience and live sound effects, Ghostlight has hilarious characters, unexpected twists, and a riotous finale. Performances will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 7 p.m.
