Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury Helps Two Local Families Build Better Futures through Homeownership

WHAT: After hours of sweat equity, budget coaching, and an outpouring of community support, two local families will be purchasing their affordable homes in Columbia, TN.

Homeowner-to-be, George Davis, is a single father of four children, Geonna (13), Karionna (12), Aarionna (12), and Malachi (5). Everyone who meets George instantly recognizes his family comes first. Although completing the homeownership program requirements on top of working multiple jobs was no small feat, he persevered to build a better life for his family– just in time for Father’s Day! George is looking forward to cutting his own lawn, grilling on the porch, and above all having a safe space for his family.

We will also be welcoming home Ms. Patricia Willingham and her great grandchildren, London (12) and Kameron (14). After years of relocating due to rental increases and housing instability, Patricia can finally purchase her own home at 72 years old– proving it is never too late for your dreams to come true! In addition to the security of homeownership, Patricia is looking forward to planting a garden at her new home and having a space to host family gatherings.

The two homes will each feature a site-located solar energy system thanks to funding provided by Schneider Electric and Helios Energy. These will be the first HFHWM builds to utilize solar technology, which will significantly reduce energy usage, overall environmental impact, and lifetime maintenance costs for our homeowners.

On Saturday, June 11th, HFHWM will host a dedication ceremony for George and Patricia to bless their homes, present their keys, and celebrate their new journey of homeownership. Please join us for a heartwarming event surrounded by family, staff, and the community.

About Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) was fully incorporated as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International on December 5, 1992. We have built over 290 homes in Williamson and Maury Counties and continue to build 10-16 new homes per year. Home construction, critical repair, and neighborhood development services are funded through tax-deductible financial contributions; in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals; and profits generated from our affiliate’s ReStore.

Homes built by Habitat are not given away, and partner families must complete a homebuyer’s education program and earn at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” by working on their home and the homes of others. After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for affordable housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. Completed homes are SOLD with an affordable mortgage to the families, helping build strength, stability, and independence to build a better life.
