Leadership Brentwood Class of 2023 Improves City With Community Projects
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Leadership Brentwood Class of 2023 celebrated its graduation in April, and during Monday night’s City Commission meeting, a few new alumni shared how the program continues to enhance this community.
For 33 years, the Williamson County Chamber Foundation has hosted Leadership Brentwood, bringing in 20 community leaders for a nine-month program that culminates in three community-service projects. On Monday, Class of 2023 members Meg Chamblee, Andrew Hackett and Terry White presented these projects to the commission.
Pet-friendly drinking fountain
Each Leadership Brentwood class is divided into three teams, and Hackett’s team decided to install a new pet-friendly drinking fountain at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library. He said they developed the idea after talking with team member Maddie Hicks, who worked at the library.
“First and foremost, it was in support of Maddie’s duties at the library,” he said. “She noted they’d always been putting dog water and bowls in front of the library and that that had been going on for years. We thought we might do something about that. Secondly, Brentwood is a pet-friendly city, so we wanted to make sure we support that cause as well.”
The team found sponsors to support their project, and later this month, a new pet-friendly drinking fountain will be installed on the walkway connecting the library to River Park. The sponsors for this project include Brentwood Academy, FirstBank, Friends of Brentwood Library, Mars Petcare, Ragan Smith, RG Masonry, Smith Seckman Reed, TMPartners, I.C. Thomasson Associates and Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates.
Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home Basketball Goal
During this recent Leadership Brentwood session, members visited the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home and saw the worn, 40-year-old basketball goal hanging above one of the courts.
“It’s a really amazing place, and they take such great care of these kids,” Chamblee said. “We saw the basketball goal, and we thought that would be a good candidate for something we could do to make an immediate impact.”
A new, adjustable goal was recently installed, with children shooting hoops on it the day it arrived.
“We were really excited to have that,” Chamblee said. “Since then, we’ve also added some storage benches, some basketballs, and equipment. We’re in the process of painting lines on the court, and we will be having a celebration picnic next week.”
The sponsors for this project include Atticus Brand Partners, Brentwood Morning Rotary, Churchill Mortgage, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Claybrook, CSSI, Right at Home-Middle TN, UDig and Uncle Classic Barbershop.
Baseball Score Tables
When White’s team brainstormed projects, they kept coming up with big ideas that required more time and money than the project allowed.
“We were at an event where the Williamson County Parks and Recreation said, ‘We’re replacing all the Brentwood baseball score tables at Granny White and Crockett parks,’” White said. “We talked with them and decided, we’ll buy three of them and replace the wooden tables there.”
The new score tables were recently installed at both parks. The sponsors for this project include C2-Com, Wilson Bank and Brentwood Middle School Baseball Team members.
Next month, Leadership Brentwood will announce the members of the Class of 2024. For information, visit http://www.leadershipbrentwood.org/lead-brent/index.php.
