Blood Supply Remains Critically Low—Blood Assurance Calls on Community to Help

Franklin, TN (April 11, 2025) – Blood Assurance is still experiencing dangerously low blood levels and is asking communities to step up and donate now to help.
“Our inventory is at emergency levels, and it’s not bouncing back as quickly as we need it to,” said Garry Allison, Senior Vice President of Operations at Blood Assurance. “That’s especially concerning as we get closer to the summer months, when donor turnout typically declines even further. We need the community’s help to prevent serious challenges in the weeks and months ahead.”
Blood Assurance must collect at least 540 units of blood each day to meet the needs of more than 70 hospitals across Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and North Carolina. The nonprofit is the primary supplier to most of the hospitals in Middle Tennessee including Williamson Health.
All blood types are urgently needed, especially type O and platelets.
Here’s how you can help:
• Walk in to any Blood Assurance donor center or mobile blood drive
• Visit www.bloodassurance.org/schedule to make an appointment
• Text BAGIVE to 999777 or call 800-962-0628
All donors who give between now and April 15 will be entered to win a $100 e-gift card—five winners will be selected. Those who donate between April 16th and the 30th will receive our exclusive “Time to Mine” t-shirt while supplies last.
O-negative and AB-plasma donors will also receive a $25 e-gift card.
To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors are asked to eat a hearty meal and drink plenty of water before donating.
