Nashville, TN, June 20, 2023 –First Horizon Foundation announced a pledge of $100,000 to The Refuge Center for Counseling (“The Refuge Center”). The Refuge Center, located in Williamson County, offers accessible and affordable mental and emotional healthcare services in order to empower, educate and support individuals, couples and families in need.
On April 19, 2023, a local foundation pledged $250,000 to The Refuge Center contingent upon the organization’s ability to raise an additional $250,000 by June 15. The First Horizon Foundation committed $100,000 towards the campaign, the largest single grant to a Williamson County non-profit organization. Through contributions from 147 donor streams, The Refuge Center exceeded the target goal in just 57 days with a total of $505,845 raised. Funds raised will support a new counseling center with more therapists, expanded reach, and a more holistic environment. Expected to be completed by Fall 2024, the new facility will also allow for an additional ninety client sessions per week with over half being children and families.
“First Horizon is committed to the communities we serve,” says Carol Yochem, Middle Tennessee Regional President. “We believe in the mission of The Refuge Center that empowers, educates and supports individuals, couples and families in need. The need for services is at an all-time high and we are proud to support the organization and its expansion.”
“The Refuge Center is honored, humbled and delighted by the overwhelming generosity of The First Horizon Foundation. Their leadership has demonstrated a life-enhancing and life-saving investment in the emotional wellness services provided by our organization to our community through this incredible gift. They are setting a critical example of local charitable endeavors by contributing to a mental health movement. The ripple effect is massive. When one person gets healthier, families get stronger. And when families get stronger, communities become more resilient. This gift will impact our community for decades to come. Gifts such as these, to The Refuge Center, will give someone the courage to keep going, the strength to reach for help, and the hope that they are not alone and their life matters!”, commented Amy Alexander, CEO/Co-Founder of The Refuge Center.
