SEPTEMBER IS SICKLE CELL AWARENESS MONTH
| Hello Everyone! September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month! Did you know an estimated 100,000 people in the U.S. are living with sickle cell disease? Most are of African descent, and many require frequent blood transfusions.
During Sickle Cell Awareness Month in September, it’s important to remember that blood donations from individuals of the same ethnicity and blood type have a unique ability to help patients with sickle cell disease. When donors kick off the month with a blood donation Sept. 3-7 to help address the ongoing critical need, we’ll thank them with an exclusive 16-ounce Red Cross campfire mug, while supplies last. Donors who give in September will also receive a coupon for a free haircut from Sport Clips Haircuts.
In addition, the Remembering the Badges Drive/Brentwood Battle on 9/8 and 9/9 has also been tagged as a Sickle Cell Fighter Drive. This means that donors who come in these two days will also receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card via email, and any donor who identifies as African American, Black, or Bi-racial will receive free Sickle Cell Trait Testing.
Please go to www.redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code: rememberingthebadges to schedule an appointment on 9/8 or 9/9 at the Brentwood Library—we are still needing 79 more donors on 9/8 and 135 more donors on 9/9. Please come in to give if you can.
If you have any questions, please contact Brandie.Spradley@redcross.org or call 615-416-1259. Thank you everyone, and I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! |
